La vida de un hombre y su pequeño hijo, que vive en una llanura tranquila, se ve amenazada por la llegada de una pareja que huye de los indios. El es un jugador profesional y ella cantante de salon. El marido huye con los caballos, dejando a todos indefensos. La llegada de los indios, les hace huir embarcándose río abajo y teniendo que superar los peligrosos rápidos que se van encontrando a su paso. En su huida, y frente a las difíciles circunstancias, el hombre y la frívola cantante irán enamorándose poco a poco.
